The Acquisitions Department is responsible for the ordering and processing of the books, journals (periodicals), annuals, microfilm/fiche, and electronic databases that are available for use in the Gray Library. Units within the Department are Monographic (book) Acquisitions, Serials (annuals and journals) Acquisitions, Serials Check-in and Bindery.

The Monographic Acquisitions unit is responsible for identification of bibliographic order records, ordering books, and processing invoices and books after receipt. The Serials Ordering unit is responsible for these same tasks for journals (periodicals), annuals (continuations), newspapers, microforms and electronic databases. After receipt, serials are processed through the Serials Check-in unit which is responsible for insuring that all serials are recorded in the OPAC and routed to the correct department. The identification of non-receipt of journal issues and the claiming of these issues is an important task performed by this unit.

The Bindery unit gathers completed journal volumes and processes them to be bound into a single volume or several volumes. This process helps to ensure that the individual issues will not be lost and will be available for use when needed.

Faculty, staff and student requests for new book titles to be added to the collection are welcome. Faculty may request material through their departmental book representative. Staff and students may either contact the department directly or use the online suggestion form or the Suggestion Box located on the 2nd floor by the Fun Read books.
